it’s Thorn (Þ), that was replaced by Y, because they’re vaguely similar shapes. Eth (Ð) isn’t even remotely the same shape.

a mind blowing experience
not to be confused with the extremely dangerous glocktopus
Chungus chungus var. biggus

you do realize these are
- in a very specific artstyle, people back then were perfectly capable of drawing realistic stuff if they wanted
- drawn based on like, maybe fourth-hand accounts, they obviously managed to draw things they saw in day to day life without issue
right?
like, how would you manage if i gave someone a vague description of an animal that sounds made up, and then they told you what to draw?
i’d imagine ostrich is the closest comparison, maybe alligator for the slow moving ones

Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.deto Science Memes@mander.xyz•Can any scientists confirm this important fact?English1·5 days agoi mean chimps just kinda generally suck, i’d wager if you look at bonobos instead they’ll beat the dog in empathy.
It’s like chimps and bonobos are prototype humans, chimps are too violent and bonobos are too busy fucking each other at all times, and god finally got something more balanced when nudging humans into existence

you can direct a cat but you have to place your finger where you want them to look.

it’s one of my favourite things about cats, you almost never have to worry about petting them in the wrong place (you know, provided the cat trusts you) nor do you have to worry about a red rocket sighting
Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.deto Science Memes@mander.xyz•Can any scientists confirm this important fact?English2·5 days agoafaik it’s not that cats have evolved to meow at us, it’s much more simply that they notice that meowing is really effective at getting our attention, and if they happen to make other noises that catch our attention and help them get what they want, they’ll also use those noises.
like, go watch the channel “lucy and stitch”, Stitch consistently and almost exclusively makes little “eh” noises, it doesn’t have to be meows.

no no they’re right, a normal person says “bougie”
the great thing about pollinator gardens is that they are always trying to grow, and you just have to let them do so
the birds, obviously. primates exist to drop food for birds to eat
isn’t middle earth wholly explicitly our earth? and thus eru iluvitar is explicitly the creator of our earth.
